✅ Most of the meditation instruction I received in the ~15 years before Theravada were one-pointed concentration methods, and the radical letting-go of zazen. Naturally I became concerned that I was just abandoning this unwholesome material, not transforming it. I don’t think I have been especially susceptible to spiritual bypassing generally, but concentration-only approaches began to feel that way for me. The simile of the cook is relevant here as well, and I can say with confidence I feel equipped to avoid both of these pitfalls with the right guidance into the suttas.
